Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé was sworn in for a new two-year term during the inaugural ceremonies held on Jan. 5.

This is Mulé’s fourth term as a Nassau County Legislator and her first time representing the newly drawn Sixth Legislative District. The district encompasses the communities of Baldwin, Roosevelt, South Hempstead, portions of Freeport, and portions of Oceanside.

With her family, friends, and supporters at the ceremony, Mulé and her minority caucus colleagues were sworn in by former Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams. Mulé also concluded the ceremony by leading the audience in singing “God Bless America.”

“Taking the oath of office for my fourth term as a Nassau County Legislator was a truly humbling experience, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve for the next two years,” Mulé said. “I am ready to work with Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton, my legislative colleagues, and the residents of the Sixth District to meet the needs of our communities and build a path to a brighter and more prosperous future for every Nassau resident.”

Mulé said that she’s very excited to get the privilege to be a legislator again for another two years. These two-years will be different, as the newly apportioned district six will have the community of Roosevelt, which Mulé hasn’t served before. She already started getting familiar with the community by touring schools in Roosevelt and meeting with school district’s superintendent, along with the Board of Education president.

On Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roosevelt Public Library, Mulé will be hosting a Town Hall. This is an opportunity for residents to learn more about Mulé and for Mulé to learn more about the community. Mulé mentioned that she will be sharing information about future projects in Roosevelt.

Mulé has already started working on projects in other communities in her district, such as the Kellogg House renovations. She said that renovations to the House’s interior will start soon. Mulé mentioned that she will also be looking for a way to bring back the Oakwood Beach Club.

“It was nice to meet some of the new legislators, who I didn’t know on the Republican side,” Mulé said about the swearing in ceremony. “It was a very nice, festive, happy, optimistic atmosphere.”

Mulé said that she hopes the positive environment at the inauguration will carry through into her term as legislator.
