Long Island Rail Road tracks were damaged in a derailment at the West Side Yard around 5 p.m. on July 21. Several trains were canceled during the morning and evening rush hours on July 23 as crews make repairs.
The 4:57 p.m., 5:19 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. trains from Penn Station along the Babylon line, and the 4:40 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. trains from Penn Station along the Long Beach branch have been canceled. Eight morning trains were canceled, including the 8:10 a.m. train from Far Rockaway.
The LIRR recommended that those who take the Babylon branch instead take trains that end in Freeport, rather than Wantagh, and leave New York City just a few minutes later than their typical train. Riders who take the Long Beach branch were also told to wait a few minutes longer for different trains that are also due in Long Beach.
