An exhibit highlighting three exciting artists working today: Jessica Jackson Hutchins, Benjamin Edwards and Tom Sanford. All three artists have been shown widely in group and solo exhibitions here and abroad. Hutchins’ sculptural work was seen in the 2010 Whitney Biennial. Benjamin Edwards reflects contemporary society in hallucinatory and visionary landscapes. Tom Sanford paints vibrant representations of pop objects and celebrities. Through Sept. 12. The Sea Around Us
This exhibition portrays the magnetism we feel for bodies of water alongside the dangers, even the terror, that seas often present. It examines the romantic fascination artists have always had for expanses of water through American and European artists from the mid-19th century to the present. On view are works by Jasper F. Cropsey, William Glackens, Thomas Buttersworth, Childe Hassam, Red Grooms, Maurice Prendergast, Edward Hopper, Claude Monet, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and James Wyeth, and other masters of seascape art. Reach For The Stars Teen Talent Search
Teenage vocalists are invited to audition for Nassau County’s 2010 Reach For The Stars Teen Talent Search. One hundred and twenty contestants will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis from applications received. Applications must be postmarked by June 18. Auditions will be held on July 7, by appointment only. There will be no open call. Contestants must be at least 13 but no older than 19 on the day of the finals, July 31, at Eisenhower Park. The Gilbert & Sullivan Yiddish Light Opera Company
The troupe seeks new performers – male and female, leads and chorus. Presentations combine a love for the Yiddish language and for Gilbert & Sullivan. An understanding of Yiddish is not required. Photo Competition
The Long Island Center of Photography is sponsoring its fourth annual photo competition. All photographers, amateur and professional, are invited to submit their most current work for consideration. All types of photography, from traditional to new media, are accepted. The submission deadline is June 30. Craft Vendors Needed
The Mill Neck Family of Organizations seeks vendors of handmade items for its Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held on Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 9-10. A favorite tradition on Long Island, visitors enjoy the Fall Harvest Festival for its crafts, apples, pumpkins, pies, and other treats. Country crafts, including handmade items and holiday gifts, are one of the Festival’s main features. Vendors are assigned an outdoor space (10’x10’), with a table and two chairs.
