Fourth annual Relay for Life hits its stride

The cancer fighting folks at Relay for Life held their kickoff event earlier this week at BHS. The fourth annual Relay for Life will be held June 9-10 at the Baldwin High School track and will raise money to help beat cancer.

Two-time cancer survivor Mary Ann Romano, who put in a little overtime repping Relay at the BPL’s Volunteer Fair Saturday, spoke about her passion for the event. “Relay for Life is about fund raising, celebrating, remembering and fighting back,” she said, flanked by two teen volunteers, Isabel Carattini and Sarah Kearns. “Tomorrow is promised to no one, so we must continue to fight this disease.”

Relay for Life is a global event that gives communities around the world the chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer. Teams of people raise funds, then camp out at a local track and take turns walking or running through the day and night. The associated programs have raised billions of dollars to date.
