School Board Election 2010

Mary Clark — incumbent

Clark, 57, has served on the school board since 2001. She has lived in Baldwin for 30 years, is married, and has four children, all of whom attended Baldwin schools.

She is a member of the PTA, of the district's Health and Safety Committee, and has also taught religion at St. Christopher's Church.

Clark said she is running for re-election to continue the work that she and the rest of the board have done over the past decade. She said she is proud of trustees' efforts to make board meetings more open and understandable to the public, adding more parent/teacher conferences and proposing steadily declining budget increases over the past seven years. She also hopes to become involved in the New York State School Boards Association.

Looking ahead, Clark said the anticipated reduction of state aid and loss of federal money in coming years will result in the board having to make hard decisions.

"We are walking a tight rope. Sometimes you feel like you are holding on to a great program with your fingertips," Clark said. "Whatever decisions are made, we have to keep what's great about Baldwin schools always first in our mind."
