North Baldwin schools locked down

Precautionary closure effected to protect students during police activity

The schools in the north of Baldwin were locked down briefly this afternoon as a precaution while police pursued suspects in the area. “The Brookside, Plaza, Lennox, Shubert, and Senior High Schools were locked down from approximately 12:45 until 2:00 this afternoon,” said District Spokesperson Cristina Schmohl. She said the closure -- which prevented anyone from leaving or entering the buildings in question -- was a precautionary measure taken to prevent students and school buildings from being endangered during the police activity. Although school officials were told that the subjects of the pursuit had been apprehended, details were not yet available as to the nature of the crimes or the suspects involved.
