Powerful storm hits Baldwin

Downed trees, power outages the result

Heavy rainfall and strong winds whipped through Baldwin this weekend, resulting in downed trees, power lines and some power outages across the hamlet.

About three inches of rain fell in Baldwin from Saturday through today, according to the National Weather service, whose officials expect to see sporadic showers in the area through tomorrow.

On Sunday, LIPA and National Grid officials reported that over 100,000 Long Islanders were still without power, but that all available crews will be working around the clock to help affected residents. Customers can call 1-800-490-0075 to report an outage and to receive information updates.
