Relay season kicks off in Baldwin

Baldwin residents kicked off the 2015 Relay For Life season with a celebration at Sonny’s Canal House last Sunday to mark the start of the fundraising campaign.

In 2014, the community’s sixth time hosting the event to benefit the American Cancer Society, which funds cancer research and treatment, raised more than $52,000.

At the kick off event, there was plenty of live music, good food, raffles and inspiration to get Relay volunteers motivated to raise money in the coming months. This year’s Relay For Life of Baldwin event will take place June 13 at Baldwin Park from noon to midnight.

During Relay For Life events, participants take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event to represent that cancer never rests. Last year, about 400 people walked in Baldwin’s Relay.
