Remembering Baldwin's 9/11 victims

Of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Baldwin lost 10 of its own. The following ceremonies will be held in area villages to
commemorate the eighth anniversary of 9/11, now a National Day of Service and Remembrance:


Baldwin
Baldwin American Legion Post 246 will hold its Sept. 11 commemoration ceremony on Sept. 10. The Legion members will be meeting at their headquarters, located at 2754 Grand Avenue, at 6 p.m. and process to the Miss Freeport boat at the Nautical Mile in Freeport.

Members of the community are invited to take part in the ceremony.

Oceanside
A 9/11 Memorial Service will be held at School House Green on Foxhurst Road on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
The community is invited to take part in the event, which will include Oceanside High School Marching Band, Boardman Elementary School Chorus, Oceanside Fire Department as well as members of the Oceanside Interfaith Council.
If you would like a victim's name mentioned during the service, please print their name on an index card and present it to one of the clergy prior to the service.

Point Lookout
The Town of Hempstead will hold its 9-11 Sunrise Memorial on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 a.m. at the Town Park in Point Lookout.
