A Rockville Centre woman was killed early Friday morning in a wrong-way collision with a box truck in Baldwin.

According to Nassau County police, Chelsi Perez, 27, was driving west on Merrick Road, near Gale Avenue, in a 2005 Hyundai, at around 1:45 a.m. when she lost control and was struck by the truck, which was in one of the eastbound lanes. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 69-year-old unidentified male drive of the truck was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety testing, and an investigation was continuing.

The truck belonged to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a nonprofit aid organization overseen locally by the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

According to her Facebook page, Perez graduated from West Babylon High School in 2007 and was a nurse technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. She was also the single mother of a 9-year-old boy.
