Softball game raises money for fallen officers

Posted

On Saturday, the “Grand Slam for Heroes” New York Police Department Softball Team and the UK Royal Air Force Softball Team faced off in a softball tournament fundraiser to support the families of fallen New York Police Department detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora. In addition, funds raised during the event will benefit families assisted by Law Enforcement Officers Weekend, an organization that works with families of officers seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

“The Town of Hempstead is proud to stand together with our first responders and their families to support Law Enforcement Officers Weekend and its efforts to assist law enforcement families affected by serious injury or line of duty death,” stated supervisor Don Clavin. “Our men and women in blue put their lives on the line to protect our community.”

“It is an honor to host Law Enforcement Officers Weekend’s first Softball Tournament right here at Hempstead town’s beautiful Baldwin Park for a fundraiser that supports law enforcement families,” stated former detective in the NYPD Councilman D’Esposito. “I know the many hardships faced by law enforcement families, and I encourage Town of Hempstead residents to attend this event in appreciation for everything that our men and women in uniform do to keep our communities safe.”

“Since 2017, we’ve had the honor and privilege of working alongside the greatest families and police departments in the world, the NYPD. Their fraternal organizations, benevolent associations and sports teams show the utmost professionalism when it comes to charitable work, especially when it’s for one of their own,” stated Austin Glickman, NYPD Officer and President of Law Enforcement Officers Weekend.

“The ‘Grand Slam for Heroes’ softball tournament is going to raise funding to help assist the families of Detectives Rivera and Mora, two of our heroes we lost back in January. We couldn’t be any prouder to partake in such a notable cause and we are grateful to Supervisor Don Clavin, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito and the Town of Hempstead for their continued support for all of our charitable endeavors.”
