On the lacrosse field, Merrick’s Danny Hartman and Wantagh’s Mike McKee are rivals. Hartman, 16, plays for Kennedy, and McKee, also 16, plays for MacArthur. Though the schools play in different conferences, the teams scrimmage each other every year, and the two said they waste no time seeking each other out when they play on the same field.
“I always try to match up against him and see what we do,” said McKee, a defenseman.

Hundreds of Kennedy High School students, faculty members and alumni donned their school colors –– green and white –– and joined together in the gym for “Jam the Gym: Wrestling Night.” The school’s cheerleading and kickline teams helped pump up the crowd before the school’s wrestling squad took on Mepham High School and came out victorious 53-15.

The Kennedy High School varsity cheerleading squad took first place at the 29th annual Nassau County Cheerleading Competition on Dec. 11 in Valley Stream. Kennedy High School students Alexa Kudish, Ariana Maiberg and Lee Sager were recently honored for their outstanding achievements in the Future Business Leaders of America’s 2011 competition, which took place from April to July. The trio progressed from the FBLA’s regional contest to the state competition in Rochester and finally nationals in Orlando. The three specialized in the Banking and Financial Systems category.

More than 300 Kennedy High School graduates spanning five decades gathered on Oct. 21 at Mulcahey’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh for a night of drinks, music and fundraising, while catching up with old friends. The multi-class reunion was the kickoff event for the newly formed Kennedy Alumni Association.

The Kennedy boys’ soccer team recently hosted Carey High School in the 11th annual Richard Daoust Memorial game, played each year in honor of Richard Daoust and Rick Hamilton, who dedicated many years to Kennedy soccer. Kennedy lost 3-0.
