If Kennedy junior Kayla Babbush has her way, local teens will leave high school knowing how to save a life using cardiopulmonary resuscitation and an automated external defibrillator.

On Feb. 3, Doug Oggeri suffered a massive heart attack after shovelling snow. Thankfully, his 18-year-old daughter, Colleen had learned cardiopulmonary resuscitation through the Police Athletic League.

Kayla Babbush, a sophomore at Kennedy High School in Bellmore, has been working with the Robbie Levine Foundation to bring free CPR/AED training to the Central High School District. The Robbie Levine Foundation was created by Dr. Craig and Jill Levine of Merrick, whose 9-year old son Robbie died suddenly when his heart stopped at a baseball practice in 2005.

The Forever 9-Robbie Levine Foundation is offering a series of free automated external defibrillator/cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes in the coming weeks. Participants in this free series need only attend one of the classes to become certified in AED/CPR.
