The 27th annual Bellmore Family Street Festival is set to begin on Thursday, Sept. 19. The carnival begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The street fair, which annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors, will start on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Live bands will play Friday night, festival coordinator Martha Verdi said. more

Tens of thousands of local folks thronged Bedford Avenue and its environs last Saturday and Sunday for the annual Bellmore Family Street Festival, sponsored by the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce. At this year's fair -- touted as Nassau County's largest -- there was a little something for everyone, from carnival rides to crafts to live marshal-arts demonstrations to pony rides, a petting zoo and any number of expos, from crafts to sports. Additionally, there was entertainment at the Town of Hempstead Showmobile throughout the weekend. The 23rd annual Bellmore Family Street Festival, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores, was originally scheduled for Oct. 17-18, but had to be rescheduled because of the threat of rain. The fair, touted as Nassau County's largest family festival, is now set for this weekend, Oct. 24-25. With this year's theme, "Sweet Dreams: Filled with Spice and Everything Nice," the festival will take place 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bellmore Long Island Rail Road station and along Bedford Avenue, with carnival rides every evening. more
