Kennedy High School students recently helped One Is Greater Than None, a non-profit group created by JFK students, to raise more than $3,500 to supply free health care to Americans in need. Some 207 participants walked at the high school track under sunny skies to raise money for and awareness of the cause.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, more than 17,000 people die in drunk-driving crashes annually -- one person every 30 minutes.
Officials in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District and at the Community Parent Center take that statistic to heart, said Wendy Tepfer, the parent center's director. And so she teamed up with Saul Lerner, the Central District's health and physical education director, to bring an innovative anti-DWI program to Bellmore-Merrick next Thursday.

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District officials are weighing whether to eliminate summer school in 2010 owing to $2.2million in potential cuts to the district’s state aid package.
The cuts, if approved by the state Legislature, would reduce Bellmore-Merrick’s total aid by nearly 12 percent.
