Calhoun High School senior Jenny Wu is on quite the roll. In the fall, she was named a semifinalist in the prestigious Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology Competition. Then, in December, she learned that she had been accepted to her “dream school” –– Yale University. One Kennedy High School senior studied whether endophytic bacteria injected into poplars would allow the trees to grow in inhospitable rocky and sandy soil. The research, conducted at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Suffolk County, could one day help solve both the world fuel and hunger crises. more
