Yes, it’s true! Snow once again blanketed the Bellmore-Merrick community on Thursday, making driving conditions hazardous. As of 8 a.m., roads had been partially plowed, sanded and salted. Town of Hempstead trucks were seen on local roads cleaning up ice- and snow-covered roads, but the job had only just begun. more

Windstorm whacks south Bellmore
Wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour wreaked havoc in south Bellmore last week, taking down trees and power lines across the area’s peninsulas. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood and severe thunderstorm watch on July 15 for southern Nassau County. But in parts of Bellmore and Wantagh, officials said, a “straight-line wind event” caused damage. more

Snow blankets Bellmore-Merrick –– again –– all schools closed
Once again this winter, snow has blanketed Bellmore-Merrick, making driving conditions hazardous for commuters. Roads were passable during the morning commute, but snow-covered and slushy. The afternoon commute is expected to be more treacherous, as snow piles up throughout the day. Forecasters expect five to eight inches of heavy, “wet” snow by day’s end. more
