Men struck while crossing Hempstead Turnpike

An unidentified 84-year-old female driver struck two male victims as they attempted to cross Hempstead Turnpike at the intersection with Newbridge Road in East Meadow on July 10 at 11:23 p.m., police said.
   
Following the incident, both victims, ages 23 and 24, were transported to a local hospital for treatment, detectives said. According to police, one victim, who sustained head trauma, is listed in critical but stable condition. The other victim suffered a broken bone and is listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said.
   
Detectives report no criminality in connection with the accident. According to police, the vehicle was impounded from the scene for brake and safety inspections.
