When Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre (HERJC) started its nursery school in 1969, there were only two classes. Since then it has increased in size, extended hours, and the amount of programs that are offered. Having added programs such as art, music, Jewish Enrichment and Mommy and Me, the nursery school has grown to nearly 200 children, ranging in ages from 10 months to 5 years. more

Giving gifts at Hanukkah time is a response to our neighbors’ celebration of Christmas. I think it is pleasing to appreciate others every day and at special times. We Jews have a long and rich history. We have lived around the world and we have influenced and been influenced by other cultures. Giving gifts is a lovely thing to do. more
The Principal’s Office took a field trip on Nov. 23 to the Merrick Jewish Centre for a Jewish-Muslim dialogue between Rabbi Charles Klein and Imam Shamsi Ali of the Islamic Cultural Center of New York. more
Once again the “Yad Squad” helped students of Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre’s religious school to make their yads, or Torah pointers, during the annual Yad program on Nov. 7. more

Mark Lukens of the Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway as he opened the 9/11 memorial services last Saturday in Memorial Park. more
