In November 2007, at 17, Kaitlin LaBarca, Lynbrook High School 2010 graduate, enlisted in the U.S. Marines. After months of preparation and training, she was off to Paris Island last April for 13 weeks of boot camp. On November 5, LaBarca’s family joined her to witness her graduation — a day filled with overwhelming pride and excitement, according her mother, Pat LaBarca.

After a duck hunter lost his watercraft, he became stranded on the marsh south of Bay Park in East Rockaway. With his dog wet from being in the freezing water and with the temperature dropping fast, the East Rockaway Fire Department, along with Nassau County Police Marine units were called to the location.

Famed Marine Sgt. William Bodette was welcomed at the airport and escorted by the Patriot Guard to the VFW in Lynbrook on Monday night, where members and residents stood to greet him.
“I personally served with him from 1991 to 1994,” said Post Commander Pat Cardone. “He’s visiting New York, and we’d like to give him a warm welcome.”
