A group of local fifteen-year olds struck gold at the national roller hockey championships in California in mid July, winning the Pee Wee Silver National championship. The players, from Lynbrook, East Rockaway, Malverne, Rockville Centre and Freeport, as well as their coach from Valley Stream, all flew out to San Jose, CA to participate in the North American Roller Hockey Championships as the Long Island-based Tour Roadrunners 1995 travel roller hockey team.  more

The Calhoun girls’ varsity badminton team recently won the Nassau County Championship with a 4-3 victory over Great Neck South. The Calhoun girls finished the season with a 15-0 record –– and their second straight championship. Team Captain Christina Strezenec won the overall singles title, beating out all other Nassau badminton players in a two-day tournament. With this win, Strezenec became the only player in Calhoun history to win four county titles playing a varsity sport. more
