Most children spend about six hours a day in class. There are proposals to lengthen that time anywhere from an hour to two or more. One variation involves weekend school, particularly for those students who have fallen behind in their studies.

For the sixth year , the Patrick Xavier Owens’ Games will be held at East Rockaway High School on Dec. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. The annual event, which was organized by Patrick’s brother, Alan, is in the memory of a brave young boy who died in 1997, at the age of five.
