There was a light saber demonstration, robots, artwork, music, food, crafts, a petting zoo and face painting at the sixth annual Arts Below Sunrise festival that also included the Trinity-St. John’s Episcopal Church fair on Sept. 17, along Broadway in Hewlett and Woodmere.

More than 3,000 people are expected to navigate Broadway between Hewlett and Woodmere on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the sixth annual Arts Below Sunrise festival that has expanded from a live entertainment and craft event to one that includes an array of science-oriented exhibits and activities.

Steaming along Broadway having fun

Live music, dancers, crafts, artists, food vendors and a focus on S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities were all part of the fifth annual Arts Below Sunrise festival along Broadway between Trinity Place and Franklin Place in Hewlett and Woodmere last Sunday.

Whenever I expressed my wish for the school year to end to my older friends, their responses often included remarks about time going by much faster than they expected and feeling nostalgic in the end. Despite my desire to complete high school and move on, they all promised me that I would be sad to leave once the ending was near.

Live music, artists, crafts and a variety of food offerings lined Broadway from the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library in Hewlett to Irving Place in Woodmere at the fourth annual Arts Below Sunrise festival last Sunday.

To help defray the costs of its fourth annual Arts Below Sunrise festival, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Endowment Fund is using a gofundme webpage to raise $12,000 and find sponsors for the event, which is scheduled for Sept. 27. As of press time, $1,485 had been pledged.

Kaminsky wins in 20th Assembly District
Long Beach resident Todd Kaminsky, 36, a Democrat, defeated his Republican opponent Avi Fertig, 41, of Woodmere, by 54 to 46 percent on Nov. 4 for the assembly seat on the 20th District and will succeed retiring longtime Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach).
