Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos said that 6,700 refund checks, 107 of them to homeowners and businesses in Woodmere, will be mailed, beginning on Dec. 23 through early next month to compensate homeowners whose tax assessments were not reduced for the tax years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 to reflect the damage incurred from Hurricane Sandy.

Honoring D’Amato, recognizing history

As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Temple Hillel presented its Ronald Reagan Award to former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D’Amato during a program last Sunday that also commemorated the 1984 visit by Reagan to the North Woodmere synagogue, only the second to a Jewish temple by a sitting U.S. president who addressed the congregation.

Nassau County will receive a $200,00 grant to further its fight against Long Island’s heroin crisis. The money, secured by State Sens. Kemp Hannon and Jack Martins, will be used to assist police in investigating fatal heroin and opioid overdoses.
