School districts across the South Shore had their state aid allotments for December held back when Gov. David Paterson ordered the payments halted so the state could stay in the black.

Last Friday, I saw the flashing lights of a police car shining into our living room window. I looked out and saw a police officer and two other men who had gotten out of their cars, all trying to entice a large and frightened dog. I suspect they were trying to read his collar, which told us that he belonged to someone and could be far away from home.

The Herald was there for North Shore Animal League America's 4th annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala in the Cipriani Ballroom in Manhattan on Novemeber 5, presented by Purina ONE. Beautiful and famous two and four-legged celebrities walked the green carpet, smiling and barking for the cameras.
