The Lawrence School District moved one step closer to selling the Number Six School on Monday, when Board of Education trustees voted 4-2 to approve the sale to Bronx-based Simone Development Companies, which plans to lease the building to Mt. Sinai Hospital, to be used as a multi-specialty medical practice.

Nassau County voters overwhelming said “no” to a proposal to borrow $400 million to build a new Coliseum and minor league ballpark on Monday. More than 150,000 voters came to the polls, with about 90,000 voting against the plan.

“We’re under the gun,” Chief Deputy County Executive Rob Walker told the Legislature last week during discussions about County Executive Ed Mangano’s plan for the future of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Walker was referring to the legislators, but he could have been speaking for county residents as well.
