A tree was pushed onto a home on Sherwood Avenue in Franklin Square by Hurricane Irene in the early morning hours of Aug. 28. Local firefighters were working today to move the tree away from the house.

Hurricane Irene came and went last Sunday, but left her mark across Long Island. Downgraded to a tropical storm as it passed over the metropolitan area, it brought heavy rains and high winds that caused local flooding, toppled trees and power lines and left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity. more

Franklin Square library goes green

For some time, the Franklin Square Public Library has been using florescent lights, turning off computers at night and generally trying to respond to a Long Island Power Authority energy audit, but it has recently gone a step further. Now the library can actually generate energy via solar panels that were installed on the building’s roof in the fall. On Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m., the library unveiled its monitoring station, which will allow patrons to see how much energy is being generated by the solar panels in real-time reporting. more

Sen. Fuschillo calls for audit of LIPA’s $30M Earl bill
