Bellmore-Merrick Democrats are rejoicing and Republicans are reorganizing after a court-appointed magistrate recently redrew New York’s congressional district lines, moving the 3rd C.D., long represented by Republican Peter King of Seaford, further east, taking Bellmore-Merrick out of the district.

Last year, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano cut $15 million Problem-Oriented Policing Unit officers from the county’s police department. He also laid off more than 200 county workers and more than 175 hospital employees. This year, his plan calls for closing half of the county’s precincts, in hopes of saving $20 million.
