A hurricane Irene 2nd battalion Fire Department Center is up and running in Baldwin this afternoon.

An anxious but able group of Fire Department operatives are on hand in Baldwin this afternoon waiting to help those in need. The Second Batallion fire departments, which serve Baldwin, Freeport, Island Park, Long Beach, Oceanside, Lido and Point Lookout, have set up an operations center at the F.D. headquarters on Grand Avenue. The center is not intended for the direct use of citizens, but will, rather, coordinate the activities of area firefighters at large.
