Island Park students get to clown around

Posted

Can you imagine being encouraged to clown around in school? That is what fifth graders at Island Park Lincoln Orens Middle School experienced this week as they participated in the National Circus Project, a program sponsored by the Island Park PTA. The National Circus Project is an innovative cultural arts organization that promotes student participation in physical education using the circus as its theme.

During the week of February 9-13, students worked with Greg Milstein and Brittany Steffens, a team of internationally acclaimed circus performers/instructors, along with physical education teachers Catherine Gerbino and Matthew Tarasenko to develop circus talents including clowning, stilt walking, juggling, feather balancing, plate spinning, acrobatics, and diabolo. After honing their new skills, the students performed before family and friends on Friday, February 13. Judging by the audience reaction, these young performers are ready for the Big Top!
