Nassau beaches weather the storm

From Herricks to Hempstead Hurricane hardly happens

Sept 4: Fears of extensive flooding, power outages and property damage fizzled on Friday as Hurricane Earl passed far enough out to sea that Nassau County suffered little more than scattered beach flooding.
Even Jones Beach State Park, where extensive flooding was reported, had some areas open for swimming today and the Stone Temple Pilots concert planned for tonight at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater will take place as scheduled.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that it would close parking field 2 at the beach, but parking fields 4, 5 and 6 are open and swimming is permitted at Field 6, Field 5 — Zach’s Bay and the west bathhouse swimming pool.

The agency issued a reminder that it is unsafe for park visitors to wade into the water in any areas that are not designated swimming locations and it is restricting them to walking along the boardwalk at the Central Mall, East Bathhouse, West Bathhouse and Field 2.

The park boardwalk and Central Mall evening activities will close at 7:30 p.m.

Robert Moses State Park has reopened and is operating under its normal schedule.  There are no swimming restrictions; however, boogie boarding is prohibited.<-->
