Giants fans come to Modell’s to stock up

As Eli Manning drove the New York Giants down the field with less than four minutes left in the Super Bowl, the Oceanside Modell’s was prepared.

A toe-tapping sideline catch, an awkward touchdown and a breath-taking Hail Mary deflection later, Modell’s employees readied themselves for the thousands of fans eager to purchase team memorabilia for the Giants’ fourth Super Bowl win.

“We’ve had thousands of fans here since the game ended [Sunday] night,” said Wayne Press, the local Modell’s general manager.

Press added that the locker room hats and T-shirts are always the most popular the morning after a game.

“We’re getting five to six shipments of new merchandise in every single day,” he said.

According to Kris Levine, an employee who had been working since 5 a.m., there had been customers coming into the store until 2 a.m. the previous night.

The Super Bowl was bitter sweet for Levine as a Jets fan. “I watched with a few friends [who are] Giants fans,” he said. “It was hard to watch, but it was a good game.”

Oceanside resident Warren Rosenbaum was in the store to buy a Super Bowl shirt and was still talking about the plays from the night before.

“Clearly that catch [by Mario Manningham] was a great play, but that throw was perfect,” Rosenbaum said.
