Island Park Fire Chief Edward Madden wrote to Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford asking for help replacing equipment lost in Hurricane Sandy. In the letter Madden said Island Park, like Long Beach and East Rockaway lost equipment that was not covered by insurance.
Ford obtained a $16,000 grant for new equipment, and on Feb. 28 Ford arrived at the fire department with 11 new automatic external defibrillators.
Madden said the new units will be in each fire truck and ambulance, in the chief’s car, and in the firehouse. Madden said all of the firehouse personnel are trained in the use of the defibrillators.
