Residents worry over assisted living

More than 400 Oceanside residents have signaled their opposition to proposed variances by Sunrise Development to build a planned assisted-living center at the northwest corner of Atlantic and Terrell avenues. Residents cited worries that the height of the building would block sunlight to their homes, and parking issues that they believe would arise if the Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals were to grant variances for the structure at its Jan. 12 meeting.

Residents said they are not opposed to the assisted-living center; just the variances. They hope to have the January meeting adjourned to a later date.
