Souls ‘shine’ at Oceanside High School

OHS fundraiser for child fighting cancer

Posted

Oceanside High School is holding a fundraiser for one of its own: Guidance counselor Greg Sloan, who's two-year-old son, Christian, is undergoing "aggressive" treatment following the removal of a brain tumor. Christian recently underwent the emergency surgery to remove the tumor and is now going through four months of intense treatment at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Sloan and his wife, Kim, have relocated to Tennessee to be with their child throughout his treatment.

Oceanside High School staff and students have organized a fundraiser to show their support for the Sloans, and have named the effort “Soul Shine — Taking Care of Family," which will take place on Friday, June 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The fundraiser will be held at the high school's football field and track, and will include kickball games, music, food, t-shirt sales, and an awareness walk around the track. The cost of the event is $5 at the gate or $200 for a kickball team of 10 (five males, five females). E-mail Pat Turk at pturk@oceansideschools.org or Julia Nappi at jnappi@oceansideschools.org for more information about entering the kickball tournament.

Donations may be sent to Oceanside High School, Office of Student Activities. Checks can be made out to Oceanside High School Soul Shine Account.
