Suspect arrested in Sacred Heart break-in

Michael Czarnecki, 53, of Island Park, was arrested on Oct. 18 and charged with breaking into Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

According to police, at about 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 16, Czarnecki broke a rear window of the church and entered the building. Police say he removed the contents of the poor boxes and also stole miscellaneous religious artifacts.

Czarnecki was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 18.
