Host Oceanside and Lawrence split a pair of varsity basketball games in last Friday’s 7th Annual Tip-Off Classic presented by the Oceanside Rotary Club.

The evening opened with the Lady Sailors of Oceanside building a 21-point halftime cushion in a 55-33 over the Lady Golden Tornadoes. Junior forward Woodlyn Daniel was a force inside with 13 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, and sophomore guard Jeanne Callalan added 11 points.

“After shooting poorly in our first two games, we felt everything came together and this is how we are capable of playing all season,” Oceanside coach Jason Manning said. “It was a well-balanced game for us with many kids contributing.”

Senior guard Deanna Viola nailed a trio of three-pointers for nine points and senior center Ashley Artis chipped in six points. Lawrence got a game-high 15 points from senior guard Gabi Golan and seven points apiece from junior center Nicole Robinson and sophomore guard Dina Goldstein.

The boys’ game followed and Lawrence busted out of the gate with 29 points in the first quarter en route to a 74-57 victory over Oceanside. Sophomore Dwayne Daniel hit for a career-high 28 points and added eight steals, while junior Eddie Robinson had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sailors, who open the Conference AA-I campaign at Massapequa this Friday at 7 p.m., got double digits in points from juniors Hunter Sabety (14) and Jonah Kaplan (11.)
