'True Blood' star films movie in Oceanside

For a period of four days — from Sept. 19 to 22 — a small part of Oceanside has been the set of a movie film starring True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård, though only the most careful movie viewers would be able to tell.

According to Executive Producer Scott Ferguson, “Disconnect,” a film set to come out in 2012, is set mostly in the immediate surrounding area of New York City, but that Oceanside, and in particular 149 Wrights Lane, was a perfect area to film a portion of the movie. “We wanted a neighborhood that felt like it could represent the lives of people anywhere,” Ferguson explained. “This part of the movie follows a young couple getting started and it felt like a great place to film.”

A majority of the parts filmed in Oceanside will be in and around the house, which is located near the South Side Hose Company 2 Fire House off of Oceanside Road, though Ferguson said there may be some short driving scenes around the area.

Ferguson said that the movie producers had spent a great deal of time trying to find a town in and around New York that could fit their plans, adding that the filming in the town accounts for about ten percent of the total movie.

After the film’s location team had decided on Oceanside as a town to film in, they went around putting letters in mailboxes of the houses they liked and waited for interested home owners to call them back.

“The community has really embraced us,” Ferguson said. “The neighbors in particular have been great.”

Though the movie set was closed and a full explanation of the movie is not yet available, Disconnect’s page on the Internet Movie Database describes it as, “A drama centered on a group of people searching for human connections in today’s wired world.”
