The “Piano Man” gets the star treatment at a retrospective tribute that not only features the music of Billy Joel, but also the history of the band from the Broadway production of “Movin’ Out,” at Hofstra University, Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m.

Wade Preston, who starred in Billy Joel’s Broadway hit, tells the story of the history of what was really going on backstage on Broadway, from the special perspective of the “Piano Man.” Preston and other band members, including Dennis DelGaudio and Chuck Burgi, had the unique experience of creating a Broadway show with the master himself from the music that has been the soundtrack for so many for more than 40 years. Some of the members of the Movin’ Out Band even went on to become part of Joel’s touring band. Humor, history, and the much-loved music are shared and played by Preston and the original Movin’ Out Band, with a special guest appearance by Robbie Rosen.

Tickets are $30, $25 seniors, $20 students, $15 Hofstra faculty/staff/student with current HofstraCard; available at (516) 463-6644.

Hofstra University’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, Hempstead.
