Hot wheels On Oct. 23, the Lynbrook Fire Department responded to a working car fire in the parking lot along Peninsula Blvd. between Earle and Vincent avenues. Truck Company, Vulcan Company and Hose Company responded to the scene under the command of First Deputy Chief Mike Hynes. A 7000-volt power line shorted and fell across Merrick Road on Oct. 12, closing the busy roadway for hours. The live power line set the asphalt roadway afire and briefly caused an outage in many parts of the village, including Village Hall.   more

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, a Republican from Bethpage, has proposed a water use fee in the county’s 2011 budget. On Labor Day, at about 6:10 p.m., the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Raymond Burke, responded to the area along the Long Island Rail Road tracks on Sunrise Highway between Ocean Avenue and Rocklyn Avenue after a train conductor operating a westbound train reported that he may have possibly struck a person near the track embankment around Ocean Avenue in Lynbrook.  more
