With some creative lighting and colorful tablecloths, students transformed the school cafeteria into a cozy cabaret lounge, showcasing the musical talents of dozens of high school students. The charity event, which was sponsored by the Lynbrook High School Tri-M Music Honor Society, raised much-needed funds for the food pantries at St. Raymond’s Church in East Rockaway and Our Lady of Peace Church of Lynbrook. Last year’s Cabaret Night raised approximately $2,000 for these local non-denominational food pantries. more

The Lynbrook Owls had much to celebrate during Varsity Fall Sports Recognition Night. The Varsity Football team clinched the Long Island Championship for the first time since 1992. MSG ranked the team as the Number One small school team in the tri-state area, and the team ranked 25th in the National Football Foundation’s final Tri-State poll. The Girls Cross Country team finished their season as Conference champs. In addition, the Boys Soccer team won the Nassau Officials Team Sportsmanship Award, while the Girls Volleyball team was the winner of the Conference I Sportsmanship award. more

In November 2007, at 17, Kaitlin LaBarca, Lynbrook High School 2010 graduate, enlisted in the U.S. Marines. After months of preparation and training, she was off to Paris Island last April for 13 weeks of boot camp. On November 5, LaBarca’s family joined her to witness her graduation — a day filled with overwhelming pride and excitement, according her mother, Pat LaBarca. more
Lynbrook High School alumnus Michael Doneger, 24, is going to the Super Bowl. Doneger, a star lacrosse player at Lynbrook High School and Johns Hopkins — now known as an actor, screenwriter, videographer and director — is a semifinalist in the Pepsi Max Crash the Super Bowl commercial contest after his entry, “Elevator Girl” — which he wrote, directed and starred in — was judged one of the top five entries among more than 6,000 Pepsi received. more
