Lynbrook officials are bringing the Vietnam Moving Wall — the half-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial Monument in Washington, D.C.— to the village in June. So far, officials have raised $6,000 — which leaves them $19,000 still to go.
"We need to help the vets and show our respect for all their dedication and patriotism," said Lynbrook Trustee Alan Beach, who, along with the Western Long Island Detachment Marine Corps League, is spearheading the effort to bring the Moving Wall to Lynbrook.

Nassau County Search and Recovery police, along with a county ambulance, helicopter and the Marine water rescue squad — as well as the Coast Guard — answered a call this morning of a car that went into the water via the boat ramp at Bay Park.

That was the word United States Volunteer Brigadier General Daniel Helix underscored when he awarded the 11th New York Regiment USV-A unit with the USV Outstanding Unit and Honors Unit commendation -- the highest award given -- on Dec. 5 at the Lynbrook VFW on Merrick Road.

On a plot of land called the Mariner’s Burying Ground in the Rockville Cemetery in Lynbrook, an 18-foot-tall marble obelisk pays tribute to the terrible tragedies of the Bristol and the Mexico, shipwrecked just days apart in the winter of 1836-37 off the coast of Long Island.
