Longtime East Rockaway resident and Village Pride Party President Stanley Lombardo announced that he would join his party’s ticket seeking the second village trustee seat that is up for election in March 2011. Lombardo joins running mates Fran Lenahan and Ed Corrado on the Pride Party ticket next year.

The Freedom Party of East Rockaway held its first organizational meeting on Sept. 23 at the Commuter’s Club on Ocean Avenue in East Rockaway.
The 19 attendees were welcomed by Richard Meagher, current deputy mayor of the village, and Village Trustee Irene Villacci. Meagher served as moderator for the evening and, after reviewing six different handouts, including proposed bylaws, he outlined four reasons for forming the Freedom Party of East Rockaway.

Residents, friends and family members are grieving over the loss of East Rockaway Mayor Edward Sieban, who died unexpectedly on July 3 after a brief stay at Winthrop University Hospital. Sieban was 49. The cause of death was acute pancreatitis.
