The East Rockaway Rocks continued their winning ways with a 62-32 road win over Clarke in a Nassau Conference ABC-VI boys’ basketball game last Friday night. Senior guard Joe Todero scored 13 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter, as the Rocks ran out to a 25-5 lead after eight minutes. Senior Dylan Giliberti led all scorers with 14 points. Todero was 3-or-4 on three-point attempts in the opening quarter. With the win, the first-place Rocks improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. more
The Lynbrook Council of PTA’s sponsored its annual Staff Volleyball Game and Middle School Kickline performance recently. Funds raised from the event will go toward scholarship funds for graduatin Lynbrook High School seniors. more
Several weeks ago, I ran a two-part series on bullying and what schools are trying to do to deal with this growing problem. Shortly after, I caught the last few minutes of a TV interview with John Halligan, whose son Ryan was a victim of bullying and ultimately committed suicide. It was a riveting, heart-wrenching, and eye-opening talk. I wanted to share his story with my readers with a firsthand account of what occurred and tried to track John down via the Internet. more
Students from East Rockaway’s Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society attended Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ, recently. The focus of their visit was to provide students with the opportunity to view live neurosurgery from a distant learning center. more
