Mepham saw both sides of the victory spectrum last week, getting a buzzer-beating three-pointer from freshman point guard Allie Murphy for a 51-48 win over Herricks on Jan. 8, and then coasting to a 49-15 win over Elmont last Friday.

As difficult as it is to beat a quality opponent three times in the same season, Mepham accomplished the feat against Oceanside on the soccer pitch this fall and the latest decision — 2-1 last Friday — earned the Lady Pirates a trip to the Nassau Class AA semifinals.

In one of the stranger endings to any softball game, let alone a postseason matchup, a dead ball run awarded after a wild pitch with runners on first and third and one out in the bottom of the ninth pushed No. 2 East Meadow past No. 7 Mepham, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Nassau Class AA playoffs.

Mepham put together its most complete softball game of the season last Monday at Oceanside, pounding out nine hits to back the strong pitching of sophomore Toni Valeriano in a 3-0 Conference AA-I victory.

Mepham’s come out firing on the lacrosse field and notched a second straight win with a 16-10 win over Sewanhaka on April 2. The Lady Pirates (4-3 overall, 3-2 in conference play) have piled up 31 goals with junior Nicole Stackpole standing front-and-center in the recent scoring surge. She scored 10 times and added six assists in the two wins, but is just one of several key cogs on a team whose scoring has become as balanced as legal scales.
