Town of Hempstead to postpone feral cats move

Protesters’ signs jeered at the Town of Hempstead on Sunday, calling a decision to trap and move feral cats in a colony at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore “cruel” and “corrupt.” The town had planed to move dozens of feral cats from their makeshift protected shelter behind the baseball field at the park. The move was set to begin on May 1, but following the weekend’s protest, the town has postponed the relocation. more

The fourth annual Alex’s Run For a Reason fundraiser took place this past Saturday at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore to great success. About 500 people turned out to take part in the day’s activities, and the event raised more than $26,000. more

Police arrested two young women and one young man at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore after authorities say they stole various items from the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Bellmore. Police said they found Christopher Castillo to be in possession of a drug believed to be heroin.

Alleged larceny leads to arrest at Newbridge Park

At 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 5, a 911 call was placed from the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Merrick Road in Bellmore. Two young women had allegedly stolen items from the store, authorities said. Nicole Castillo, 21, of Bellmore and Nicole Hughes, 22, of East Meadow, got into a 1998 Chrysler Sebring driven by Christopher Castillo, 23, of North Bellmore. more
