Charles Schumer announced on Dec. 21 that the Environmental Protection Agency plans to release $11 million in grant money awarded to Nassau County in the mid-1980s as a reimbursement for $20 million in upgrade work done at the Bay Park and Cedar Creek sewage treatment plants at the time. more

The Nassau County Department of Public Works is shipping raw sewage from the Bay Park treatment plant in East Rockaway to this pumping station on Merrick Road in Merrick. The sewage is then piped to the Cedar Creek treatment plant in Wantagh. The plan is a temporary fix for mechanical problems at Bay Park.

County trucking sewage across the South Shore
