Calhoun Colts goalie Alissa Battaglia saved 19 shots on goal in the Class AA final Wednesday night, but the MacArthur Generals found the back of the net three times in their shutout victory. The 3-0 loss ended the Colts’ undefeated season, but coach Lori Biscardi said she was proud of how far her team came — knocking off top-seeded Farmingdale en route to the championship and boasting the second-leading scorer in the county –– Kristina Gandolfo, who netted 21 goals this fall.

The Calhoun Colts girls’ soccer team knocked off the Mepham Pirates 2-1 in overtime on Friday to earn a hard-won spot in the Nassau County AA Championship. The Lady Colts, ranked No. 9, face No. 2 MacArthur in the finals.

The Kennedy boys’ soccer team recently hosted Carey High School in the 11th annual Richard Daoust Memorial game, played each year in honor of Richard Daoust and Rick Hamilton, who dedicated many years to Kennedy soccer. Kennedy lost 3-0.

Calhoun redeemed its early season loss to East Meadow, taking down the visiting Jets 4-2, in a Nassau Conference AA-II boys’ soccer game Oct. 13. Colts senior Angelo DiMatteo tallied two goals late in the second half to secure the win.

When two pit bulls attacked a woman at the Brookside School in North Merrick on Sept. 29, Merrick PAL soccer immediately cancelled practices for that day at Brookside and moved several travel games for the weekend to Fayette School Elementary School in Merrick.

A 2-1 loss to first place Elmont last Monday may have damaged Mepham’s hopes of claiming the regular-season crown in Conference AA-III boys’ soccer, but with five games left, the Pirates (5-5 overall, 5-4 Conference AA-III) still have plenty of time to jockey for playoff positioning.
