The Rev. Randall Broger of the Oceanside Interfaith Council addressed a crowd of about 100 at the organization’s annual 9/11 memorial at Schoolhouse Green last year on Sept. 11. The interfaith council paid tribute to those who died on 9/11 and had Rev. Bonnie Giebfried, a first responder on 9/11, speak to those in attendance about what it was like to be at Ground Zero on that day.
Those who have fallen
Eight years have passed since that dark day in our nation’s history. The observance of September 11 continues to be a time for remembrance, healing and solace, and hope for the future. The Herald hopes this photo page of victims, killed in the terrorists attacks in New York, who had a connection to Oceanside — some were born and grew up in the town, others lived there as adults or served in its fire department — will help memorialize them. more
Getting ready to let go
As Tuesday’s first day of school drew nearer, some of the most excited children in Oceanside and Island Park were those who were about to start kindergarten. With new backpacks and notebooks, folders and pencils, may were looking forward to their first full days of school. more

O'side man sues DOT for $5 million
An Oceanside man who was hit by a car while riding a bike on the bike path that runs along the northbound side of the Wantagh Parkway in 2007 is suing New York state for $5 million, his lawyer said. more

Mike Lee, 24, blew a .11 on the breathalyzer administered by Officer Lamont of the NCPD before taking to the obstacle course. The results of his drunk driving efforts can be seen in the photo below.
