About 50 Rockville Centre residents attended the village’s annual Sept. 11 vigil at the Village Green on a cold night last Sunday. Some were children and teenagers too young to remember the terrorist attacks 13 years ago.

The Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade Committee has chosen Long Island’s leading service provider for children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities, a Long Island provider of a “home-away-from-home” for the parents and siblings of hospitalized children and a national provider of service dogs for the severely disabled as the three charities it will financially support with the parade, scheduled for March 24.

A landlocked country in East Africa, Uganda may be thousands of miles away from Rockville Centre, but to the Garrity family of Peter, Delia and their daughter Trish, who visited there last summer on a humanitarian mission, there is a close connection.
